What is blepharoplasty?
Blepharoplasty is the medical name for eyelid surgery: correcting excess skin, muscle and fat of the upper or lower eyelid. It is usually done under local anaesthesia and you go home the same day.
Upper and lower blepharoplasty
- Upper blepharoplasty: hanging skin and, if needed, fat are removed. The incision sits in the lid crease.
- Lower blepharoplasty: under-eye bags are corrected, often through the inner surface of the lid with no visible scar.
Who is it for?
People with excess upper lid skin or prominent under-eye bags whose general health allows surgery. In advanced cases hanging skin narrows the visual field, and surgery becomes a functional need.
Before surgery
Vision, tear production and lid height are measured. A drooping lid (ptosis) and a lowered brow are told apart from excess skin. The plan is based on this examination.

Frequently asked questions
At what age can blepharoplasty be done?
Cosmetic blepharoplasty is considered after 18. There is no fixed upper age; the decision depends on the lid and general health.
Is blepharoplasty permanent?
Removed skin and fat do not come back, but ageing continues, so new changes can appear over the years.
