Can under-eye bags go away without surgery?

If bags come from fluid or a hollow, daily habits, some creams and, in suitable cases, filler can reduce how they look. If the cause is bulging fat, the lasting solution is lower eyelid surgery.

Three different causes of under-eye bags

Three causes

  • Fat: a bulge that is the same all day.
  • Hollow: the groove below makes the bag stand out.
  • Fluid: worse in the morning, better through the day.

Without surgery

Some creams can make bags less visible. Less salt, regular sleep and sleeping with the head raised reduce morning puffiness. If the hollow dominates, filler may be considered.

When surgery is needed

Cream or filler cannot push bulging fat back. Lower lid surgery is mostly done through the inside of the lid, without a visible scar.

Frequently asked questions
