How long does eyelid surgery take?

Upper eyelid surgery usually takes 30–45 minutes, and you go home the same day. Lower lid surgery or combined procedures take longer; the exact time is planned at the examination.

Time by procedure

  • Upper lid: usually 30–45 minutes.
  • Lower lid: depends on whether fat is removed or repositioned.
  • Combined: upper and lower lids, brow lift or canthopexy together take longer.

On the day

Surgery is usually under local anaesthesia, with sedation if needed. You go back to your accommodation with a companion shortly afterwards. Do not drive that day.
